Werner's nomenclature of colours : with additions, arranged so as to render it highly useful to the arts and sciences, particularly zoology, botany, chemistry, mineralogy, and morbid anatomy : annexed to which are examples selected from well-known objects in the animal, vegetable, and mineral kingdoms
A colour reference manual by Edinburgh flower painter Patrick Syme, expanding the mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner's colour system, printed in 1821 for naturalists, chemists and artists who needed fixed names for observed colours. The plates are ruled tables of hand-painted swatches, each numbered and captioned with a colour name plus an animal, vegetable and mineral example, giving designers a ready palette of muted historical hues alongside letterpress grid layouts and specimen-label typography.
