A French technical manual on wool dyeing in fleece, yarn, and cloth, written by the dyer Gonfreville and published by Lacroix et Baudry in Paris in 1871 for trade dyers and textile manufacturers. The scanned plates here are close views of the volume's own page edges and gutters: vertical bands of olive, tan and grey with fibrous paper grain, usable as striped ground textures, worn-paper fills, and spine or binding details.
