The art of painting restored to its simplest and surest principles
A painter's technical manual by Liberat Hundertpfund, issued in London by David Bogue in 1849 and printed by Thomas Harrild, addressed to artists and students learning pigment handling and method. The scanned plates here are blank interleaving leaves carrying soft offset ghosts of facing illustrations — oval and shield-shaped brown stains, foxing, deckled fore-edges and visible sewn gutters — usable as aged paper textures, stain overlays and backgrounds.
