Caesar Avgvstvs, sive, Historiae imperatorvm Caesarvmqve romanorvm ex antiqvis nvmismatibvs restitvtae liber secvndvs : acessit Caesaris Avgvsti vita et res gestae
A Latin antiquarian history of the Roman emperors reconstructed from ancient coins, written and printed by Hubert Goltzius at Bruges in 1574 for scholars, collectors and numismatists. The woodcuts are schematic rather than pictorial: ranks of tiny labelled buildings, domed rotundas, arched gatehouses and turreted towers standing in for provinces and towns, plus ruled grids of inscription panels edged with cloud-shaped borders and small portrait roundels of the seasons.
