A 1555 Venetian treatise by Enea Vico on ancient Roman medals and the errors of earlier historians, printed by Gabriel Giolito de Ferrari for antiquarians and coin collectors. The plates here are woodcut initial letters in which grotesque masks, foliage, putti and small lions are packed into the counters and margins, useful as drop caps, ornament fragments or sources for grotesque-mask motifs.
