Felsina pittrice : vite de pittori bolognesi
Carlo Cesare Malvasia's Felsina pittrice, printed in Bologna in 1678 by the heir of Domenico Barbieri, collects biographies of Bolognese painters for collectors, connoisseurs and artists. Engraved portrait medallions of painters sit in oval frames hung with ribbons and flower garlands, alongside foliate woodcut initials and tailpieces useful as frames, monograms and decorative letters.
