Felsina pittrice : vite de pittori bolognesi
Carlo Cesare Malvasia's Felsina pittrice, printed in Bologna in 1678 by the heir of Domenico Barbieri, collects biographies of Bolognese painters for local patrons, collectors, and artists. Its plates are engraved bust portraits set in oval frames of fruit garland and knotted ribbon, joined by woodcut initials filled with acanthus scrollwork; useful for cartouche shapes, ribbon terminals, and decorative letters.
