Winckelmann's history of ancient art, translated by Michel Huber and edited with plates by Hendrik Jansen, published in Paris in 1793 for antiquarians, collectors and artists studying Greek and Roman sculpture. Engravings reproduce gems, reliefs, sarcophagi and statues in thin outline or light hatching within oval and rectangular frames, useful as figure studies, silhouettes and ornament sources.
