Johann Joachim Winckelmann's history of ancient art in Michel Huber's French translation, edited by Hendrik Jansen and published in Paris in 1793 for antiquarians, collectors and artists studying Greek and Roman sculpture. The engraved plates copy antique gems, reliefs and statues in fine outline with light hatching: nude and draped figures, winged genii and cupids, helmeted warriors, sacrifice scenes, and oval gem-shaped frames useful as figure stock, border devices and drapery reference.
