Histoire de l'art chez les anciens
Johann Joachim Winckelmann's history of ancient art in Michel Huber's French translation, issued at Paris in 1789 by Barrois and Savoye for antiquarians, collectors, and artists studying Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek, and Roman remains. The plates are fine-line engravings after reliefs, engraved gems, and cameos, many paired as a horizontal frieze band above an oval or round medallion, giving designers draped classical figures, seated scribes, winged attendants, and ready-made ovals and borders.
