Le imagini delle donne avgvste intagliate in istampa di rame : con le vite, et ispositioni di Enea Vico : sopra i riversi delle loro medaglie antiche
A numismatic study of Roman empresses by the Parma engraver and antiquary Enea Vico, published in Venice in 1557 for collectors and scholars of ancient medals, with one copy owned by Abraham Ortelius. Each copperplate engraving frames a profile coin portrait and its inscribed reverse within an invented architectural setting of scrolled brackets, herms, grotesque masks, urns, garlands and kneeling nude figures, supplying ready-made cartouches, borders and ornament vocabulary.
