Ivsti LipsI Poliorceticon, siue, De machinis, tormentis, telis, libri qvinqve : ad historiarum lucem

Lipsius, Justus, 1547-1606 · 1605 · Antverpiæ, : Ex Officina Plantiniana, apud Ioannem Moretum · 66 pictures

A Latin antiquarian treatise on ancient siege engines, artillery and missiles by the Flemish humanist Justus Lipsius, printed in Antwerp by the Plantin office in 1605 for scholars and military readers. Engraved and woodcut plates show battering rams, counterweight and torsion machines, shielded sheds and scaling ladders worked by crowds of small figures against hatched masonry walls, alongside geometric bastioned fort plans and a printer's device framed in strapwork; useful for mechanical diagrams, siege-crowd vignettes and ornamental frames.
