Joannis Bisselii, e Societate Jesu, Deliciae aestatis
A Latin emblem book on summer by the Jesuit Johann Bissel, printed at Munich in 1644 by Nikolaus Heinrich with copperplates designed by Johann Ulrich Loth and engraved by Wolfgang Kilian, addressed to educated Catholic readers. Each plate is a small oval scene — Marian apparitions, angels carrying a prophet, walled towns and open countryside — ringed by a Latin motto in curving script and corner sprays of wheat and leaves, giving designers ready-made oval cartouche frames, banderole lettering and compact landscape vignettes.
