Johann Joachim Winckelmann's history of ancient art, issued in 1776 by the Akademischer Verlag in Vienna under Trattner's press for antiquarians, collectors and artists studying Greek and Roman sculpture. The engraved plates copy reliefs, gems and statues in outline and fine hatching: Prometheus and Athena forming figures, a bathing scene, a winged victory over a chariot, and small oval gem designs with Greek lettering, all reproducible as clean line art.
