A multi-volume collection of letters on painting, sculpture and architecture by artists of the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries, edited by Giovanni Gaetano Bottari and printed in Rome by the heirs of Barbiellini in 1754 for antiquarians and connoisseurs. The plates are letterpress ornaments: inhabited initials with eagles and acanthus, headpiece friezes of paired mermaid-caryatids, and a garlanded monogram medallion useful as borders, drop caps and rules.
