A multi-volume collection of letters by painters, sculptors and architects of the fifteenth to seventeenth centuries, edited by Giovanni Gaetano Bottari and Luigi Crespi and printed in Rome by the Barbiellini heirs in 1754 for antiquarians and art scholars. The plates here are letterpress ornaments: rococo cartouches framing small scenes of a seated warrior and workmen, tailpieces of crossed trumpets and laurel, winged putti flanked by grotesque beasts, and a tasselled canopy with palm branches — ready-made headpieces, frames and small vignette devices.
