A treatise of painting
Leonardo da Vinci's Trattato della pittura in its first English edition, printed in London in 1721 by J. Senex and W. Taylor for painters and drawing students. Outline engravings show nude male figures standing, striding, throwing and lifting, with ground lines, plumb lines, lettered keys and draped rocks, giving clean contour bodies in motion that can be traced, silhouetted or reassembled into figure studies.
