· 24 pictures

A Dutch drawing manual by the painter Gérard de Lairesse, printed in Amsterdam by Willem de Coup in 1701, teaching geometry and measurement as the foundation of draughtsmanship for art students and apprentices. The plates are bare black line diagrams — squares, triangles, circles halved and quartered, single arcs and struts, crossing sight-lines meeting at lettered points — set in small blocks on laid paper where the letterpress shows through from the other side, useful as spare geometric marks, diagram lettering and rule-and-compass constructions.
