Chiromantia.
A Latin handbook of palmistry, physiognomy and astrology by the German priest Johannes ab Indagine, who died in 1537, issued in a small 1546 edition for scholars and practitioners of divination. Seventy woodcuts show open hands in thick black outline, palms crossed by named creases and marked with letters, crosses, stars and planetary symbols, giving designers stark high-contrast silhouettes and a ready vocabulary of occult notation.
