Mayvogel, Jacob Coenraeds · 1699 · Amsterdam, Gedruckt by Casparus Loot-Man · 35 pictures

A Dutch emblem book of moralizing verse by Jacob Coenraeds Mayvogel, printed in Amsterdam by Casparus Lootman in 1699 for Protestant household reading, with appended rhymed tales of Amnon and Tamar and a wedding poem. The small copper engravings set biblical and courtship episodes in open landscape: ruled hatched skies, radiating sunbursts, walled towns, church spires, feathery trees, and figures in seventeenth-century dress.
