Phil May's Gutter-snipes; 50 original sketches in pen and ink
A portfolio of fifty pen-and-ink sketches of London street children by the British comic draughtsman Phil May, issued by the Leadenhall Press in 1896 for buyers of humorous art albums. The drawings use spare contour lines and hatched shadow to set ragged boys, girls in oversized hats and scolding adults against blank ground, offering compact figure groups, gestures and period clothing.
