A Jesuit emblem book on faith, hope and charity, written by the Antwerp priest Gulielmus Hesius and printed in 1636 by Balthasar Moretus at the Plantin press for devotional and meditative reading. The small cuts set winged putti against blank ground, carrying books, tablets, chalices and drapery, drawn in open outline with hatched shading, and work as spot ornaments, drop-in figures, or cut-out silhouettes.
