Vanished halls and cathedrals of France
A 1917 travel account of northern French towns damaged in the First World War, written and illustrated by the American painter George Wharton Edwards for a Philadelphia general readership. The plates are loose pencil and pen sketches with light watercolor washes, showing cathedral porches, ramparts, timber-framed gables and narrow streets seen from low viewpoints; useful for architectural line detail, spire silhouettes and sketchy crowd figures.
