Handbook of heraldry, with instructions for tracing pedigrees and deciphering ancient mss., rules for the appointment of liveries, &c.
A manual of English heraldry by John Edwin Cussans, published in London by Chatto & Windus in 1893 for genealogists, antiquaries and anyone drafting arms or liveries. The cuts are small line-engraved shields showing charges, ordinaries and quarterings, with hatching and dots standing in for tinctures — a ready stock of crisp blazon motifs, lions, crosses, chevrons and fleurs-de-lis.
