Maria Edgeworth's concluding volume of the Early Lessons series, written with her father Richard Lovell Edgeworth and printed for R. Hunter in London in 1825, taught children honesty, industry and the rudiments of physics, natural history and manufacturing through the conversations of a brother and sister. The single image indexed here is a pen-drawn bookplate vignette: three deep-shadowed arches in rusticated stone, trailing ivy, dense parallel hatching, and spaced capitals beneath, useful for arcade motifs, heavy ink shadow, and lettered plate layouts.
