Heart of Europe
A 1915 Scribner's volume by the American Gothic Revival architect Ralph Adams Cram, surveying the medieval art and architecture of northern France and Belgium for American readers during the First World War. The plates are halftone photographs of cathedral flanks, buttressed apses, and civic guild halls shot square-on in flat daylight, useful for tracery patterns, stepped gable silhouettes, and grainy grey building textures.
