Jules Verne's 1878 scientific romance of a comet carrying a fragment of Earth through the solar system, issued in Paris by Hetzel for a general readership of adults and older children, with wood-engraved plates after Paul Philippoteaux. The plates work in heavy black, setting small figures against basalt cliffs, cavern mouths and lamplit interiors; useful for dense crosshatched rock texture, silhouetted figures at scale, and night-lit dramatic staging.
