The Herald and genealogist
The Herald and Genealogist, a heraldic and genealogical periodical edited by John Gough Nichols and printed in London from 1865, written for antiquaries and family historians. The line-block cuts show shields, lozenges and crests in flat black outline — ermine spots, crosslets, lions rampant, swans, mullets and quartered coats — ready to lift as compact emblem silhouettes, pattern fills or monochrome badge motifs.
