The Herald and genealogist
A Victorian antiquarian serial on heraldry and family history, edited by John Gough Nichols and issued in London by John Bowyer Nichols and Sons in 1873 for genealogists and record scholars. Line-engraved shields fill the pages: quartered coats, ermine fields, lozenge diapers, crests on wreaths, ribbon mottoes, and charges from stags and griffins to towers and chalices, all ready as clean black silhouettes.
