The Herald and genealogist
A Victorian scholarly periodical on heraldry and family history, edited by the antiquary John Gough Nichols and printed in London from 1862 for genealogists and antiquarian readers. The wood-engraved cuts show quartered shields, seal impressions, crests and armorial bookplates in hatched line, with tinctures marked by letters and shading patterns useful as ready-made crests, borders and blazon textures.
