A genealogical and heraldic history of the commoners of Great Britain and Ireland enjoying territorial possessions or high official rank, but uninvested with heritable honours

Burke, John, 1787-1848 · 1836 · London, H. Colburn; [etc., etc.] · 204 pictures

John Burke's genealogical and heraldic history of British and Irish landed families without inherited titles, published in London by Henry Colburn in 1836 for gentry readers tracing pedigree and arms. The 204 pictures are small line-cut shields with quartered fields, ordinaries and charges — rampant lions, griffin and unicorn heads, martlets, crescents, mullets — topped by crests on wreaths and coronets, giving clean black-and-white silhouettes and repeatable heraldic motifs for badges, monograms and pattern work.
