A genealogical and heraldic history of the commoners of Great Britain and Ireland enjoying territorial possessions or high official rank, but uninvested with heritable honours

Burke, John, 1787-1848 · 1836 · London, H. Colburn; [etc., etc.] · 247 pictures

John Burke's multi-volume reference on the landed gentry of Great Britain and Ireland, published in London by Henry Colburn from 1836 for genealogists, lawyers and families documenting descent and arms. The 247 pictures are small line-engraved coat-of-arms blocks: shields quartered and divided by bends and chevrons, filled with lions, griffins, crosses, lozenges, escallops and checkered fields, each topped by a crest on a torse, offering ready-made heraldic charges, hatching patterns and shield outlines.
