Herculaneum, past, present & future
An archaeological argument for excavating Herculaneum, written by Charles Waldstein with Leonard Shoobridge and published by Macmillan in London in 1908 for scholars and prospective patrons of the dig. Halftone plates show marble and bronze portrait busts, reclining figures and statuary from the Villa of the Papyri, most shot against black or grey grounds with hard raking light.
