A French compendium of the wall paintings, bronzes and mosaics excavated at Herculaneum and Pompeii, compiled by Louis Barré with engravings after H. Roux and Adolphe Bouchet and issued by Firmin Didot in Paris in 1870 for antiquarians, artists and collectors. The plates are outline and lightly toned engravings of draped figures, flying cupids, serpents and animals set inside ruled panels and running borders, giving designers isolated classical figures, repeatable frieze strips and framing motifs.
