The high-pressure steam engine : an exposition of its comparative merits, and an essay towards an improved system of construction, adapted especially to secure safety and economy in its use
An 1847 London engineering treatise by German engine-builder Ernst Alban, translated and annotated by William Pole for J. Weale, arguing for safer high-pressure steam engine construction before British mechanics and manufacturers. The plates are numbered line engravings with fine hatching and grey wash shading: sectioned boilers, cylinders, flanged joints, feed apparatus and valve gear, useful as precise mechanical silhouettes and tonal cylinder studies.
