Jean Bodin's Latin treatise on witchcraft and demonic pacts, printed by Nikolaus Basse at Frankfurt in 1590 with an appended refutation of Johann Weyer, issued for jurists, clergy and scholars debating witch trials. The surviving plate here is not from the text but a 1701 engraved armorial bookplate for Algernon Capell, Earl of Essex, giving a crowned and mantled shield, lion supporters on a compartment, a garter motto scroll and an engraved caption panel in script.
