Histoire de la caricature et du grotesque dans la littérature et dans l'art
Thomas Wright's survey of caricature and the grotesque in literature and art, translated by Amédée Pichot and published in Paris by A. Delahays in 1875 for antiquarian and art-historical readers. Line drawings copy medieval misericords, marginalia, carnival masks, prints and later satirical plates: masked musicians, contorted peasants, hooded devils, padded courtiers, drawn in plain outline with sparse hatching, easy to enlarge or vectorise.
