Champfleury's 1867 study of caricature in ancient art, published in Paris by E. Dentu for readers of art history and the history of humour. Line woodcuts copy Greek and Roman comic figurines, masks, vase paintings and graffiti: grotesque heads, padded actors in draped tunics, hatched shading and plain white grounds, ready for cutting out as spot figures.
