Winckelmann's history of ancient art, translated into French by Michel Huber and issued in Paris by H.J. Jansen in 1793 for antiquarians, artists and collectors studying Greek and Roman sculpture. The plates are outline and stipple engravings of statues, reliefs, gems and cameos, many set in oval frames with ruled hatched grounds, giving clean contour figures, drapery studies and classical profile heads that cut out cleanly for reuse.
