Eugène Müntz's multi-volume survey of Renaissance art, published by Hachette in Paris in 1889 for French general readers and students of the period. Its 531 plates reproduce Italian paintings, frescoes, manuscript frontispieces and carved architectural detail in halftone and engraved line, giving designers ornamental page borders, grotesque candelabra pilasters, arcaded perspective interiors and inscription tablets held by putti.
