Gaston Tissandier's history of balloons and famous aeronauts, published in Paris by H. Launette in 1887 for a general readership following the ballooning revival of the 1870s and 80s. Sepia-toned etchings and wash drawings show inflations in walled gardens, crowds in top hats and bonnets, elongated dirigible envelopes above cloud banks, and striped balloons trailing their baskets over water; useful for rigging and netting line work, silhouetted aircraft against open sky, and period crowd figures.
