Histoire & description pittoresque de la Cathedrale de Metz, des eglises adjacentes et collegiales
Émile Bégin's history and description of Metz cathedral and its neighbouring collegiate churches, printed in Metz in 1843 by the lithographer Verronnais for local antiquarians and readers of French church history. The plates reproduced here are small wood-engraved coats of arms of bishops, canons and donors: hatched shields carrying lozenges, towers, crosses and lions, some topped by crowned helms with broad acanthus mantling, useful as compact heraldic devices, ruled-line shading patterns and scrollwork ornament.
