Histoire de Sienne
A French edition of Robert Langton Douglas's history of Siena, published in Paris by Librairie Renouard in 1914 for readers of art history and Italian civic history. The plates are halftone photographs of Sienese panel paintings and frescoes: gabled polyptychs with pinnacles and predellas, gold-ground Madonnas enthroned among saints and angels, and narrative fresco scenes of crowds in interiors, useful for Gothic altarpiece architecture, haloed figure groupings, and heavy tonal texture.
