Germain Bapst, a member of the Paris jeweller family that served the French court, wrote this 1889 Hachette history of the French crown jewels for collectors, historians and the jewellery trade. The plates are fine outline engravings of diadems, gem-set sword hilts and mounted stones, alongside circular panorama key-plans and dense landscape engravings, useful for precise contour drawing of faceted stones, settings and repeating ornament.
