A history of Alençon needle lace written by Mme Despierres and published in Paris by Renouard in 1886 for collectors, lacemakers, and students of French decorative art. Plates print white lace against solid black grounds: a full flounce with scalloped edge and floral ground, plus grids of numbered stitch samples, alongside a marbled binding.
