Claude-François Menestrier's 1691 numismatic history of Louis XIV, published under a Paris imprint but actually printed in Amsterdam, presenting the reign through medals, emblems, devices, jetons, inscriptions and arms for court readers and antiquarians. Engraved plates show circular medal faces in fine line: winged Victories, seated allegorical figures, laurelled royal profiles, trophies of arms, fireworks, and Latin legends curved around the rim.
