Histoire generale d'Espagne, du P. Jean de Mariana de la Compagnie de Jesus.
A French translation of Juan de Mariana's general history of Spain, printed in Paris in 1725 by the booksellers Le Mercier, Lottin, Josse and Briasson for a learned readership interested in Spanish history and coinage. The plates here are letterpress ornament rather than narrative: woodcut headpieces, tailpieces and corner borders of acanthus scrollwork, strapwork cartouches, flower sprays, ribbons and grotesque birds, usable as chapter dividers, frames and repeating border units.
