Histoire generale d'Espagne, du P. Jean de Mariana de la Compagnie de Jesus.
A French edition of Juan de Mariana's general history of Spain, translated by Joseph-Nicolas Charenton and printed in Paris in 1725 for Le Mercier, Lottin, Josse and Briasson for scholarly readers. The plates here are typographic ornament rather than narrative: horizontal woodcut headbands of symmetrical acanthus scrollwork framing central medallions, lettered rings, flower bundles and footed urns, printable at small size as rules, chapter heads and cartouche frames.
