A Latin history of pagan prophets, oracles and sibyls, compiled with an essay on divination and printed at Frankfurt in 1680 by Ludwig Bourgeat, for scholars of antiquity and emblem literature. Fifty-one small copperplate figures stand full-length in draped robes and pointed caps beside flaming altars, serpents, trees and urns, giving designers dense hatched line work and compact allegorical props.
