An historical essay on architecture
An architectural history by Thomas Hope, published posthumously in London by John Murray in 1835 and edited with plates prepared under Edward Cresy, addressed to architects and antiquarian readers tracing building styles from antiquity through medieval Italy. The plates are outline engravings of church fronts and elevations — Lombard and Romanesque facades with arcaded eaves galleries, blind arcading, rose windows and recessed portals — drawn flat with ruled masonry courses and pale grey-buff tints, useful for line-based architectural motifs, repeating arch patterns and geometric facade layouts.
